For excellent descriptions of
Asperger's Syndrome and High Functioning Autism please check out the
following links. Note that while AS and HFA have many similarities,
their exact definitions and relationships to each other have not been
completely ironed out yet. Some professionals think the two conditions
are related or the same while others claim they are completely
separate. So don't be too surprised or worried if you notice small
differences in the descriptions found on the sites below. Our focus is
on treatment and coping skills which are pretty much the same no matter
which diagnosis a child receives.
Also if your child has a diagnosis of High
Functioning Autism please be aware that is a sub-catagory of Autism --
it doesn't just mean an autistic child who isn't so bad off as some of
the others. So it may be an accurate diagnosis of your child even if he
doesn't have many of the characteristics of classical Autism.
