Our meetings are open to all
interested
parties. We target our presentations to those involved with
students with a diagnosis of (or
suspected of
having a diagnosis of) Asperger's or High Functioning Autism, but
anyone who feels they may benefit from our group is welcome to
attend. We
generally meet on the second Thursday each month, though
our schedule may be adjusted due to holidays.
We're sorry but no children are allowed at the
meetings -- no exceptions (unless you're nursing an infant.)
Sorry to be so tough but we're going to be talking in graphic detail
about the difficulties our kids are facing and how to cope with
them. Some of our comments could really hurt their feelings if
they were overheard or repeated by a sibling, like "His classmates
think he's weird because ..." or "She drives me nuts when she ..." or
"Is my kid going to ever get a date?" Some topics would be
downright scary, like "My son said he wants to kill himself." We
need to be able to talk
freely and yet still allow each parent to decide what information they
want to present to their kids and when they want to present it.
