There are people who work hard to help our kids.  Like the teacher who not only didn't throw your kid out the last time he lost his temper, she explained to the other students why it happened and why they should help him out.  The proctor who helped your child find a social niche at lunchtime.  The administrator who thought outside the box to meet your kids' needs.  The speech professional, the occupational therapist, or the adaptive PE teacher who stretches his abilities daily.   There are unique individuals out there who go above and beyond to help our kids.  For those special people, we want to say thanks.

Immediate Thanks
The idea is for parents to contact us when someone working with their child has gone above and beyond so we can send them a token of appreciation from Open Doors -- a really nice certificate that says "We've Heard You're Wonderful!" or a pin or button or something. Think outside the box! Make it something cool.

Organizers: We need 'em.

Contact Info: Volunteer

Helpers: That means you.

We need people to design the item, figure out how we're going to fund the project, produce the item, and handle mailing them out.

Requirements: It has to be very pretty or cool or meaningful, but also appeal to women and men, inexpensive, easily replicated, and easily shipped. We can ask parents to pay the cost of the item and shipping.

Thank You Book
This is like a portable awards ceremony.  We are going to collect thank you letters from parents to educators who have made a difference in their child's life.  We are going to bind them into a book and give a book to each featured person and their school at the end of the school year.  Parents will benefit by seeing all the folks that are working hard to help our kids.  Educators will feel appreciated, even the ones who aren't in the book -- and they can see what other educators are doing.

We need people to handle the letter collection process, to figure out how we're going to fund this, to figure out how to make the book, to make the letters printable, to make the books, and to distribute the books.

Requirements: It has to be very pretty or cool or meaningful, but also appeal to women and men, relatively inexpensive, and easily shipped. We can ask parents to pay the cost of the item and shipping.
